Be A Clown from THE PIRATE (by Cole Porter, also!)

"Make 'em Laugh" from SINGING IN THE RAIN, not by Cole Porter, but listen to how amazingly similar the tunes are!! Cole Porter never sued though because MGM was the studio producing his musical films, too.
"Make 'em Laugh" from GLEE (notice how they replicated the choreography)

WELCOME: INTRO

Welcome to the Ranney Summer Programs courses Performing Arts Theatre Workshop and Drama Insights. On this site you will be able to get a feel for what we'll be doing each day, as well as find resources and links that will be helpful as the course progresses.

THIS SESSION'S THEME
Students will explore the concept of "The Foolish Wit".  Two Shakespeare Soliloquies will be performed as ensemble pieces. Students will also write treatments for their own scenes and monologues looking at the ideas and interpretations of "being a fool", either in the positive or negative light that word can conjure.

EVERY DAY PRACTICES
Location:
Generally we will be in either Panther Hall or Lower School Room 133

What to Wear:
  • Students should always dress in clothing that is easy to move in. Non-constricting jeans, khakis, leggings, shorts and skorts are fine.
  • T-Shirts, button downs, and blouses are fine. Please avoid halter tops, spaghetti strap tops and any other beachy clothing.
  • Sneakers or jazz flats are the preferable footwear. Any closed-toe, closed-heel comfortable shoe will work. Definitely do not wear sandals or flip-flops!

What to Bring:
  • a bright and cheerful attitude
  • binder (will be provided, and can be left at school)
  • pens/pencils (last year's pencil case is fine to bring)

2. Students will be responsible for writing their program bio. Parents may aid with content suggestions, but please make sure to allow your son or daughter's own voice to shine through.

Students will receive written narrative comments at the end of the two weeks.

FINAL SHOW DETAILS
WHEN:   Friday, July 11, 10:30 a.m.
WHAT:   Parents, Family and Friends will have the opportunity to see work that students in both the Orchestra and Drama offerings have prepared over the two weeks.

For students enrolled in the full-day Performing Arts Academy, parents are welcome to take students at noon, if desired, however students can also participate in workshop activities through to regular departure at 4pm. It will be important, however, to have a count of students remaining for the afternoon session at least a few days prior for planning purposes.
